Carry The Call
Carry the Call just happened yesterday, and i'm having mixed feelings about it.
Half of me says its cool - that it was good. In a way it was, it never fails to get me all fired up and touched by God. But on the other hand the workshops were boring. Okay, two of them sucked big time - good people manning it, but really making you want to sleep. And not so many people turned up for the workshops, either.
The rally, fortunately, was just like last year. Loud noice, loud message, even louder screams. And this year that was really deafening. The new generation of carry-the-callers seem to have the gift of very good screaming - loud and high. About half of us had no choice but to cram our fingers into our ears. Pelik, lah.
The first talk of the workshops was on Buddhaism (no, SIB is NOT changing religion, rest assured) coz christians find it hard to evangelise to buddhists. (yeah, as if we try....) It was interesting, mostly, after that, only creative ministry was nice. The rest of the speakers just read out from powerpoint slides.
Powerpoint....what's the point?
Overall, big dissapointment. Rally? Very good. What was touching was when at the end of the rally the youth leader asked "What song do you want?", and everybody shouted (well, at least a large majority - including Andrea and her sis) shouted "One Way!!!!!"
And he said,"Well, my band doesn't really know the song - we didn't practise for it. Any others?"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The same majority shouted in unison.
He still looked fazed. "Can't we do something else?"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" They yelled back again, with more force.
"I tell you what, you come for Carry The call 2006 and we'll do One Way, Okay?" He pleaded.
"WE WANT IT NOW!" The youths roared back.
"Okaaaaaay...I just know the first two lines, but i know the song repeats itself - so one, two, three - ONE WAY! JESUS!"
And the whole crowd sang back the next few verses. In the end, when it reached a new bridge, he asked a couple of guys from the audience - two girls and two boys. (oh, sorry three boys - Aldrin, Hershel and Raymond - the girls i don't know) And the band started doing impromptu very quickly. First the drummer caught on to the beat, and then the bass guitarist. Then both the acoustic guitarist and the piano player talked to each other, fingered their instruments and decided on the key. Before you knew it chords were playing through the woofers.
Amazing.
